Read a Malaga seafood menu the way you would at home and the prices look low. Marisquería Jacinto’s 26 euros beside the gambas de Málaga is for 200 grams, which works out at 130 euros a kilo; Marisquería Godoy on Muelle Uno prices the same prawns at 35 euros per 250 grams. The unit printed after the price matters as much as the price.
Where should I eat seafood in Malaga, and what does it cost? At Jacinto, in Carranque, prawns and quisquillas cost 26 euros per 200 grams. At Godoy, on Muelle Uno, prawns cost 35 euros per 250 grams and bread 2.80 a head. For fixed prices with no weighing, Los Delfines in La Malagueta sells grilled prawns at 11 euros a half portion.
A marisquería is a Spanish seafood restaurant that serves shellfish boiled or grilled, priced by weight or by portion. In Malaga the two by the port, Godoy and Los Delfines, are about 150 metres apart, and the neighbourhood houses sit in Carranque and Ciudad Jardín.
What the shellfish names on a Malaga menu mean
- Gambas: prawns; gambas de Málaga are local, rojas de Garrucha are red prawns from Almería.
- Quisquilla de Motril: small pink shrimp, served boiled.
- Cigalas: langoustines, often priced según peso.
- Carabineros: large scarlet prawns.
- Coquinas and almejas: wedge clams and clams, usually sold by the portion.
- Bogavante: lobster, priced per 100 grams or per kilo.
How to read a price, and what según peso means
Godoy prints the rule in its menu: wild shellfish from the bay “is offered by weight”, fixed prices exist only for portions, and you “can ask the weight and price before ordering”. Its cigalas and carabineros carry precio final según peso, final price by weight.
To compare houses, convert to the kilo: prawns cost 130 euros a kilo at Jacinto and 140 at Godoy, and carabineros 180 at both, own calculation from each menu. Restaurante Gabi, on the El Palo seafront, lists carabineros at 150 euros a kilo and lobster at 60, on its August 2025 menu. On TripAdvisor, Godoy scores 2.9 from 615 reviews, many of them about the final bill.
Do you pay for bread at a Malaga seafood restaurant
Bread is charged per person: 0.80 euros at Los Delfines, 1 euro at Gabi and 2.80 per diner at Godoy, with VAT included. Jacinto does not publish a bread price.
Los Delfines, Calle Reding 12, avoids the weighing altogether: grilled prawns cost 11 euros for a half portion and 19.50 for a full one, and coquinas 8 and 12.

Seafood questions from visitors
What does ‘según peso’ mean on a Spanish menu?
It means the listed price is for a set weight, such as 250 grams, and the final bill depends on how much the piece served weighs. At Godoy in Malaga it applies to cigalas and carabineros, and the menu says you can ask the weight and price before ordering.
How much are prawns in Malaga?
Gambas de Málaga cost 26 euros per 200 grams at Jacinto and 35 euros per 250 grams at Godoy, about 130 and 140 euros a kilo. At Los Delfines, grilled prawns cost 11 euros for a half portion and 19.50 for a full one, with no weight given.
Is bread charged at seafood restaurants in Malaga?
Yes, at most. Los Delfines charges 0.80 euros, Gabi 1 euro and Godoy 2.80 euros per diner, according to their menus, so a table of 4 at Godoy pays 11.20 euros for bread.
What is quisquilla?
A small pink shrimp, usually from Motril, served boiled and eaten with the fingers. In Malaga it costs 26 euros per 200 grams at Jacinto and 35 euros per 200 grams at Godoy, so the same weight differs by 9 euros between the two houses.
