Turn up for lunch at 3.30pm and a 3-course lunch for 12.50 euros may already be gone. Vino Mío, by the Cervantes theatre, serves its menú del día from 1pm to 3pm only, for 12.50 euros. Walk about 200 metres to Rita’s Resto Bar on Plaza de la Merced and the same price buys lunch until 4pm. Timing, not price, decides most cheap lunches here.
What is the menú del día in Malaga, and how much is it? A fixed-price lunch of starter, main and dessert or coffee. In Malaga’s old town it costs 12.50 euros at Vino Mío and Rita’s, the two places that publish the price. Vino Mío adds bread and 1 drink, but serves it only from 1pm to 3pm; Rita’s runs until 4pm.
The menú del día is a Spanish set lunch, sold at one price for two courses and a third, which Vino Mío pitches at workers, locals and visitors alike. In Malaga it clusters around Plaza de la Merced, about 470 metres from Plaza de la Constitución, and opposite Atarazanas Market, where Bar Los Pueblos also sells a half menu.
What you get for the price, course by course
The menu is chalked up as three choices. Vino Mío’s written rules show how literal they are:
- Starter, chosen from the day’s list.
- Main course, chosen from a second list.
- Dessert or coffee, one or the other.
- Bread and 1 drink: a caña, a small draught beer, a soft drink, water or coffee.
Rita’s lists 4 starters and 4 mains, then dessert or coffee, and says nothing about a drink, so ask “¿lleva bebida?” before you order. The house to try for local stews is Bar Los Pueblos, Calle Atarazanas 15, with more than 30 home-style dishes to combine.
How to order, and what gets charged on top
Ask for “el menú, por favor” when you sit down; the waiter recites or points to the dishes. At Los Pueblos you can ask for medio menú, a half menu, which press reports from 2025 give as 8.50 euros, with the full menu quoted between 10.50 and 12.99: confirm it at the counter.
Bread outside a set menu can be a charge of its own. Bar Nerva, in La Victoria, lists it at 1.50 euros per person on its July 2026 tapas menu, so a table of 4 pays 6 euros before the first plate. Inside Atarazanas Market, the bar serves standing at the counter and publishes no prices; one March 2025 review complains of 15 euros for a small plate of fried fish.
A Japanese buffet is another fixed-price lunch: Sushi Haya charges 16.95 euros at weekday lunch, with rules explained in Japanese restaurants in Málaga.
When tapas cost less than the menú
For a lighter lunch, a tapas round with prices on the board can beat the set menu. At La Tranca, Calle Carretería 92, a caña at 1.60 euros plus meatballs at 3.20, an empanada at 2.60 and a montadito at 2.80 comes to 10.20 euros. It takes no bookings and opens from noon to 1am; the full menu is in La Tranca in Malaga.
Casa Lola, Calle Granada 46, charges 3 euros a tapa for ensaladilla, porra, tripe or bravas, so 3 tapas come to 9 euros before a drink. It takes no bookings at this branch and warns of a queue, which it says moves in under 10 minutes. How the tapas system works is explained in tapas in Malaga’s old town.
For a burger instead, BSMASH by María Zambrano station serves from noon to 11pm, as set out in burgers in Málaga.

The 7-euro menú in La Luz
A set menu at 7 euros is advertised by the café of the Centro Social de Mayores La Raíz, a senior citizens’ centre at Avenida de Isaac Peral 23, about 4 kilometres southwest of the old town. El Español reported in December 2025 that it includes starter, main, bread, dessert and a drink.
The city’s listing gives the café as open Monday to Friday. Before travelling, call +34 951 926 010 to check that non-members are served.

Cheap lunch questions from visitors
What is a menú del día in Spain?
A fixed-price lunch with a starter, a main course and dessert or coffee, usually with a choice of several dishes for each course. In central Malaga, Vino Mío and Rita’s charge 12.50 euros. Whether bread and a drink are included depends on the restaurant.
Does the menú del día include a drink?
Sometimes, and usually only one. Vino Mío includes bread and 1 drink, a small beer, soft drink, water or coffee, and coffee counts as the alternative to dessert. Rita’s set menu does not mention a drink, so ask before ordering.
What time is the menú del día served in Malaga?
At lunchtime only, and the window varies. Vino Mío serves it from 1pm to 3pm, Rita’s from noon to 4pm. Arrive after 3pm and the cheaper option is often tapas at La Tranca or Casa Lola, which stay open through the afternoon.
Can I get a menú del día at the weekend in Malaga?
At some places. Directories list Vino Mío as open Tuesday to Sunday, while Cañadú serves its vegetarian set menu Monday to Friday and the city’s listing gives the La Raíz café as open Monday to Friday. Rita’s does not publish which days it serves the set menu.
Plan the cheap lunch by the clock: set menu before three, tapas after.
