Gluten-Free Bakeries in Málaga, Dedicated or Shared

Seven appear on the council list and they are not equivalent: 5 bake in dedicated workshops where wheat flour never enters, and the rest share one. FreeBakery, El Pastelero Real, Despacho de Sabores, Nata & Chocolate and Piquito Bakery are the five, and the last of them bakes in Ronda.

🇪🇸 Leer en español

Seven bakeries appear on Málaga’s council list of gluten-free establishments. Five of them never let wheat flour through the door and the others do, and that distinction does not appear on the list.

Which bakeries in Málaga are fully gluten-free? 5 run dedicated workshops: FreeBakery, El Pastelero Real, Despacho de Sabores, Nata & Chocolate and Piquito Bakery, which bakes in Ronda. The rest run a gluten-free line inside a shared workshop, which is a different proposition for a diagnosed coeliac.

A dedicated gluten-free workshop never uses wheat flour, so cross-contamination is not a risk to manage but an impossibility; a shared one separates by protocol rather than by architecture. FreeBakery is at avenida Pedro Salinas 8, El Pastelero Real at Pasaje San Fernando 6, and Piquito Bakery bakes in Ronda, 100 km away, delivering daily to Camino de San Rafael 5.

Dedicated or Shared Is the Only Question

Everything else about choosing a bakery here follows from this. A dedicated workshop handles no wheat flour at any point. A shared workshop produces gluten-free items alongside conventional baking, separated by protocol rather than by architecture.

The second model is legitimate and may be enough for mild sensitivity. For diagnosed coeliac disease most associations point to the first, which is why the bakeries operating that way state it in their opening line rather than burying it.

The list is a starting point rather than a filter, because it neither separates the two models nor covers every dedicated bakery.

The Five Dedicated Workshops

El Pastelero Real started in 2016, bakes at Pasaje San Fernando 6 and runs a café and churrería on Calle Babel 5, on 951 15 39 32. It goes furthest on multiple restrictions, with a large range free of lactose and milk protein as well as gluten.

Nata & Chocolate, on Paseo de Sancha 10 beside La Malagueta, bakes bread, cakes, pastries, pizza and savouries in a fully gluten-free workshop, also free of lactose and milk protein.

Despacho de Sabores occupies Calle Lozano de Torres 3 in the city centre and makes custom cakes alongside biscuits and desserts.

FreeBakery sits at Avenida Pedro Salinas 8, unit 7, in Bailén-Miraflores, and describes itself as entirely free of gluten and TACC. Everything is made to order, collected Monday to Friday, with orders taken by WhatsApp on 611 50 09 05.

Where each of these addresses falls within the city is set out in Málaga neighbourhoods.

The Fifth One Bakes a Hundred Kilometres Away

Piquito Bakery is the outlier and worth understanding before relying on it. Its workshop is in Ronda, not in Málaga, and it describes strict controls guaranteeing the total absence of cross-contamination.

Production travels daily to its Málaga outlet at Camino de San Rafael 5. The two numbers are 604 958 964 in the city and 604 127 666 in Ronda.

That arrangement has a practical edge and a practical limit. Bread arrives fresh each day, but stock depends on a delivery rather than on an oven next door. Getting to Ronda itself, if the workshop is the destination, is covered in Ronda from Málaga.

The Words to Look For on a Spanish Shopfront

Three phrases do the work here, and recognising them saves a conversation in a language you may not have.

  1. Sin gluten is simply gluten-free, and on its own it says nothing about the workshop.
  2. Obrador propio means the shop bakes on its own premises rather than buying in. Paired with sin gluten, it points to a dedicated workshop.
  3. Sin TACC extends the claim to wheat, oats, barley and rye together, and is the phrasing FreeBakery uses.

Two more are worth knowing. Sin lactosa is dairy-free and sin proteína de la leche goes further, excluding milk protein, which El Pastelero Real and Nata & Chocolate both declare alongside gluten.

Eating Out Beyond the Bakery

A dedicated bakery solves breakfast and cake, not lunch. The Red Málaga sin Gluten covers restaurants and cafés as well as the 7 bakeries, so the same directory answers the wider question.

Two habits help while travelling. Ask for the workshop, not the dish, because the answer generalises to the whole menu. And treat a shared fryer the way you treat shared flour: the risk is the equipment rather than the recipe, which is the reasoning set out in eating in Málaga.

What the Council List Leaves Out

The directory is the Red Málaga sin Gluten, run alongside ACEMA, the Málaga coeliac association, and establishments join it. Membership is the criterion, not an inspection outcome.

That explains the gap worth knowing about: Nata & Chocolate does not appear in the bakeries section despite operating a dedicated workshop and citing coeliac association accreditation. Absence from the list is not evidence of anything.

The working conclusion is that neither source is complete alone. Cross the directory against what each bakery states about its own workshop before ruling anywhere out.

Celebration Cakes Need a Separate Booking

A gluten-free birthday or wedding cake is not a portion set aside at a conventional bakery. It comes from a different supplier and has to be booked as one.

For birthdays, FreeBakery and Despacho de Sabores both take custom orders, with general lead times and prices compared in birthday cakes in Málaga. At a wedding the requirement stops being an exception across a hundred guests, and belongs in the tasting conversation described in wedding cakes in Málaga.

The full map of the city’s bakeries, with and without restrictions, is in Málaga cake shops, and the same dedicated-versus-shared logic applied to ice cream is in gluten-free and vegan ice cream in Málaga.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gluten-Free Bakeries in Málaga

Which bakeries in Málaga are fully gluten-free?

Five run dedicated workshops: FreeBakery on Avenida Pedro Salinas 8, El Pastelero Real at Pasaje San Fernando 6, Despacho de Sabores at Lozano de Torres 3, Nata & Chocolate at Paseo de Sancha 10, and Piquito Bakery, which bakes in Ronda.

What does obrador propio mean on a Spanish bakery sign?

It means the shop bakes on its own premises rather than buying in. Combined with sin gluten it signals a dedicated workshop, which is the phrase a coeliac needs. Sin TACC extends the same claim to wheat, oats, barley and rye.

Can you buy fresh gluten-free bread in Málaga?

Yes. Piquito Bakery bakes in Ronda and delivers daily to its Málaga outlet at Camino de San Rafael 5. El Pastelero Real also offers a wide bread range from its workshop at Pasaje San Fernando 6, with a café on Calle Babel 5.

Is there a gluten-free and dairy-free bakery in Málaga?

El Pastelero Real declares a large selection free of lactose and milk protein alongside gluten, and Nata & Chocolate bakes without gluten, lactose or milk protein in the same dedicated workshop on Paseo de Sancha 10.

Two Questions at the Counter

Conditions here are what each bakery states and what the Red Málaga sin Gluten directory records, and both change without notice when a business expands its range or moves premises.

Two questions settle any doubt on the spot: whether the workshop is dedicated, and whether that particular item was baked there rather than brought in. At FreeBakery or Piquito Bakery the first question is already answered.

What the network badge guarantees, and the town line where it stops, is in gluten-free Malaga.

In a dedicated workshop the question is redundant. In a shared one it is the only one worth asking.
