Fuengirola outsells Marbella by a hair
The clearest illustration sits at the bottom of the table. Fuengirola takes 157,631 fewer guests than Marbella and still sells 8,402 more nights: 2,600,696 against 2,592,294.
Average stay does the work: 4.42 nights in Fuengirola against 3.47 nights in Marbella. A long-stay destination makes up for fewer arrivals without difficulty.

The city that fills up and empties fastest
Malaga city leads on arrivals with 1,789,524 guests, some 57 per cent more than Torremolinos, and falls to third on nights with 3,777,147.

Torremolinos does the opposite: 647,921 fewer guests than the city, 1,762,973 more nights. Benalmádena also beats the city on nights, 3,810,921, on roughly 2.5 times fewer arrivals.
Marbella is the most international of the six
Ranked by who arrives rather than how many, the order changes again. Marbella carries the highest share of guests resident abroad at 75.9 per cent, ahead of Benalmádena on 72.1 per cent, Torremolinos on 68.8 per cent and Fuengirola on 67.9 per cent.
The least international is Nerja, at 64.6 per cent, marginally below Malaga city on 65.5. The spread between first and last is 11.3 points, narrower than the reputations of these places suggest, and none of the six drops below 64 per cent.
What this count covers, and what it leaves out

It counts hotel establishments only. Holiday lets, apartments and private accommodation are excluded, and on this coast they carry real weight, so these numbers describe the hotel market rather than every visitor.
The INE also warns that, because of updates to its establishment directories, figures from different years are not directly comparable. The ordering holds from year to year; the totals need redoing each season, and the gap between the top destination at 5,540,120 nights and the smallest at 940,942 nights is close to 6 times.
