The classic mistake at Muelle Uno is a late lunch. A table at Casa Carmen at 17:00 gets you a drink and a view, but no food: its kitchen serves from 13:00 to 16:30 and again from 19:30 to 23:00, which is ordinary Spanish timing and catches many visitors out. The promenade itself is open, the 20 shops trade until 22:00 and the restaurants keep their doors open until 00:00 every day.
Is Muelle Uno in Málaga worth visiting? Yes for an evening stroll and dinner by the boats, not for shopping. Muelle Uno, pier 1 of Málaga port, links the Centre Pompidou (9 euros, free on Sundays from 16:00) with the La Farola lighthouse, and has 28 places to eat but only 20 shops, open from 10:00 to 22:00.
Muelle Uno is an open-air harbourside promenade on pier 1 of Málaga port, with restaurants, a few shops and the Centre Pompidou, open seven days a week. It is a 9-minute walk from Plaza de la Marina and about 12 minutes from Atarazanas metro station, and entry costs nothing. How the rest of the port works, and which piers are off limits, is covered in how Málaga port works.
Is Muelle Uno worth it, or just a shopping mall
Think of Muelle Uno as a waterfront walk with terraces, not a shopping mall. The directory on its plan lists 20 shops: Lacoste, Pompeu, Deichmann, official Real Madrid and FC Barcelona stores, Miniso, Ale-Hop, Primor, Kiko Milano, a pharmacy and an estanco, the state-licensed tobacconist that also sells postage stamps. Against that there are 28 places to eat and drink, from Burger King to a seafood house.
So come for the walk, the boats, a meal and the Centre Pompidou Málaga, the colourful glass Cube at the northern end. Along the way you pass the 8 by 8 metre port chapel and finish at La Farola, a 38-metre lighthouse; La Malagueta beach starts just beyond it. Dogs are welcome on the promenade, though each restaurant sets its own rule.
When Spanish meal times catch visitors out at Muelle Uno
The opening hours Muelle Uno publishes are 10:00 to 22:00 for shops and 12:00 to 00:00 for restaurants, described as a minimum that each restaurant can extend. Inside that window, kitchens keep Spanish hours, with a lunch service, a dinner service and a gap in between that is for coffee, ice cream and the sea.
Casa Carmen shows it most clearly, with its kitchen shut from 16:30 to 19:30. Godoy, the seafood restaurant, closes earlier than the rest, at 22:30. Cafés and ice cream parlours such as Amorino, Martonela and Manolo Bakes bridge the gap from 11:00 to 23:00, and the Pompidou closes at 20:00 and all day on Tuesdays. By 21:00, only the shops, cafés and restaurants are left.
The best slot for a first visit is late afternoon, in this order:
- Museum first. Arrive by 18:00 and see the Pompidou before it shuts at 20:00; on Sundays it is free from 16:00.
- Lighthouse walk. Walk the 553 metres to La Farola as the light drops; sunset times by month are in watching the sunset in Málaga.
- Dinner. Sit down for dinner after 19:30, when the Casa Carmen kitchen reopens.
- Boat or beach. On another day, take to the water: Mundo Marino catamaran trips leave the port from 9 euros a person, compared in Málaga boat trips, and La Malagueta beach, past the lighthouse, is covered in Málaga beaches.
Where to eat at Muelle Uno and what it costs
At Muelle Uno the restaurant you pick matters more than the pier, because the same dish can cost double next door. The comparison below uses the menu each restaurant publishes, with VAT included.
| Muelle Uno restaurant | Best for | Typical price | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casa Carmen | Sharing plates at local prices | Bravas 6.75 euros, paella 14.75 euros per person | Kitchen 13:00-16:30 and 19:30-23:00, bread 1.50 euros per person |
| Toro | A set Spanish dinner | Tasting menu 42 euros per person | Minimum 2 people and the whole table must order it |
| Angus | Steak without surprises | Sirloin 300 grams 26 euros, côte de boeuf 1.2 kilos 82 euros | First side dish included, extra sides 3.50 euros |
| Marisquería Godoy | Seafood and fried fish | Fried anchovies 16 euros a portion, Málaga prawns 35 euros per 250 grams | Wild shellfish sold by weight, bread 2.80 euros per diner |
Casa Carmen is the safe choice on price: patatas bravas, fried potatoes with a spicy sauce, at 6.75 euros and Padrón peppers at 4.95, against 13 and 10 euros at Toro next door; four croquettes cost 7.95 euros at Casa Carmen. Toro’s 42-euro tasting menu covers three starters, a main chosen from three and dessert. Angus prices its steaks by the piece, so a 1.2-kilo côte de boeuf is 82 euros with a side; other steakhouses are compared in the best steak in Málaga.
At Godoy, ask the weight before ordering any wild shellfish: the menu says it is sold by weight and the final price depends on the piece. The wider seafood picture is in Málaga seafood restaurants, and the Soho alternative, 789 metres away in a straight line, is where to eat in Soho. For the city as a whole, start with where to eat in Málaga.
Things that may disappoint: bread is charged everywhere, from 1.50 to 2.80 euros; many of the other outlets are chains such as KFC, La Tagliatella and Hard Rock Cafe; and the view is of the marina, not the open sea. For a beach table or a view over the whole bay, see Málaga sea-view restaurants.
How to get to Muelle Uno and what parking costs
Most visitors should walk. From Plaza de la Marina the Pompidou is 659 metres away in a straight line, and the palm-shaded Palmeral de las Sorpresas on pier 2 leads straight to it, 256 metres from the Cube. Cruise passengers heading into town will find the route options in the Málaga cruise stopover guide.
With a hire car, the Muelle Uno car park is open 24 hours and charges by the minute, rounded to the nearest 0.05 euros, with a 30-euro daily cap:
| Time parked at Muelle Uno | Price with VAT |
|---|---|
| 1 hour | 2.35 euros |
| 2 hours | 4.85 euros |
| 4 hours | 9.85 euros |
| 12 hours | 29.80 euros |
There are 16 electric charging bays from Iberdrola, 4 at La Farola and 12 at Paseo de los Curas, used through the company’s app. If the card machine fails, the car park asks for cash. Street parking in the centre is limited to 150 minutes, which is why a longer evening usually ends up here; the alternatives are in parking in Málaga centre.
What to do at Muelle Uno with kids or when it rains
Being outdoors, Muelle Uno leaves three roofs when it rains. Galaxy Park, in units 23 and 24, is a bowling alley charging 8 euros a game per person and 6 euros for virtual reality, with no booking and a ramp for small children. The Centre Pompidou is free for under-18s and has a free audio guide in 6 languages, English included.
In good weather, the ice cream counters open from 11:00 to 23:00, and the bike tours of QQ Bikes start from its kiosk on the pier, priced in the Málaga bike tour guide. For the rest of the city with a pushchair, see Málaga with kids and what to do in Málaga when it rains.
When the market is on at Muelle Uno
There is no weekly market. The Zoco Maravilla craft and food market sets up on selected Sundays from 11:00 to 19:00, under the promenade awnings, and in October the dates are the 11th, the bank holiday Monday 12th and the 25th. An autumn market also runs every day from 10:00 to 22:00 until 9 November. Outside those dates, check the Muelle Uno events page before planning around a market.
Muelle Uno FAQ
Is Muelle Uno free to visit?
Yes. Muelle Uno is an open-air promenade on pier 1 of Málaga port with no entry fee, open every day. The only paid sights are the Centre Pompidou, whose combined ticket costs 9 euros and is free on Sundays from 16:00, and the Galaxy Park bowling alley, at 8 euros a game.
Do restaurants at Muelle Uno charge for bread?
Yes, and it is on the menu. Casa Carmen charges 1.50 euros per person for bread, Toro 1.50 euros for its bread, alioli and olives service, and Marisquería Godoy 2.80 euros per diner. It is printed on each menu, so it is a listed charge rather than a surprise.
What time do Muelle Uno restaurants serve food?
The minimum restaurant schedule Muelle Uno sets is 12:00 to midnight every day, but kitchens follow their own hours. Casa Carmen cooks from 13:00 to 16:30 and from 19:30 to 23:00, so a late lunch at 17:00 gets drinks only there. Godoy closes at 22:30.
How much is parking at Muelle Uno?
The Muelle Uno car park is open 24 hours and charges by the minute: 2.35 euros for one hour, 4.85 for two, 9.85 for four and 29.80 for twelve, with a daily cap of 30 euros. Cruise passengers can leave a car for 7 days for 58.60 euros.
Muelle Uno costs nothing to walk; what you pay depends on which door you sit at, not on the view.
