Tivoli World, the amusement park on Avenida del Tívoli in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena, is closed and has no reopening date. Right next to its old gate, the Benalmádena cable car runs from 11am to 6pm in October, from €17.90 online, and its base station is 312 metres from the C-1 train stop, 18 minutes from Málaga Airport. Selwo Marina is 840 metres from the same station, and Sea Life sits in Puerto Marina, 1.9 km away.
Is Tivoli World open? No. Tivoli World in Benalmádena closed during the pandemic and sells no tickets. In July 2026 the town hall sent its redevelopment plan to the Junta de Andalucía, which has 3 months to issue an environmental report; after that come two council votes and a building permit. The cable car next door is open daily.
Tivoli World is a 1972 amusement park in Arroyo de la Miel that closed during COVID-19 and is now part of a redevelopment plan by Grupo Inmobiliario Tremón. That plan puts a 35,860 square metre park beside a 58,000 square metre shopping and leisure plot, and the agreement with Benalmádena says the park must open before or at the same time as the shops, never after.
What’s open next to the old Tivoli, a short walk from the train
The Benalmádena cable car leaves from Avenida del Tívoli, about 100 metres from the former park gate, and climbs Mount Calamorro. Tickets cost from €17.90 online and €21.90 at the gate, and children under 1 metre ride free. Full fares are in the Benalmádena cable car guide.
Selwo Marina, a marine park in Parque de la Paloma, is about 10 minutes’ walk from the station, also served by bus line 110 from Málaga, and costs from €15.90 online. Its website warns that the main pool is temporarily without activities, so check what is running before paying. Dolphin feeding times and which ages it suits are in Selwo Marina from Málaga.
Sea Life Benalmádena charges adults €18.50 online and €21 at the gate, and its current hours are 11am to 6:45pm, last entry 6pm. Details are in the Sea Life Benalmádena guide.
Two more family stops are too far to walk: Monowa, the butterfly house formerly called the Mariposario, is 4.2 km from the station, and Colomares Castle, €3.50 at the gate, is 3.4 km, with no booking needed. Both are covered in Monowa butterfly park and Colomares Castle, and the rest of the town is in what to see in Benalmádena.
Which park is open on your travel dates
The cable car runs daily, 11am to 6pm in October and 11am to 5pm in November and December. Selwo Marina opens daily in October but only Friday to Sunday in November. Aqualand Torremolinos, the nearest water park, closes on Sundays and Mondays in October and shuts for the season from 1 November to 31 March 2027.
For a winter trip, the gap to watch is 7 January to 11 February 2027, when both the cable car and Selwo Marina are closed. Monowa opens 10am to 6pm every day through that period, and Bioparc Fuengirola, 600 metres from the last C-1 stop, opens all year; see Bioparc Fuengirola from Málaga.
None of these is a ride park. For teenagers who wanted Tivoli’s thrill rides, the closest options are the 116-metre zip line at Selwo Aventura, for riders of 40 to 90 kg, and the slides at Aqualand Torremolinos, from €37 online until 31 October. More ideas by age are in Málaga with kids.
Book online the day before, not at the gate
Every park here except Monowa charges less if you book online: €10.00 less at Selwo Aventura, €4.00 on the cable car and €2.00 at Selwo Marina and Aqualand. Sea Life only applies its online price to visits from the day after purchase, and Bioparc knocks €1 off adult and child tickets bought 24 hours ahead.
| Attraction | Adult online | Adult at the gate | Free for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Benalmádena cable car | from €17.90 | from €21.90 | under 1 metre |
| Selwo Marina | from €15.90 | from €17.90 | under 3 and under 1 metre |
| Sea Life Benalmádena | €18.50, booked the day before | €21.00 | n/a, adult rate from age 15 |
| Monowa | €13.50 | €13.50 | under 3 |
| Selwo Aventura | from €19.90 | from €29.90 | under 3 and under 1 metre |
The SelwoPack bundles the cable car, Selwo Marina and Selwo Aventura at €48.90 per person online, the same for adults and children. For two adults and a 5-year-old that is €146.70, against €150.10 buying the three separately online, so it only pays if you do all three. Selwo Aventura has no train station.
Getting there from Málaga Airport or the city centre
The ride on the C-1 commuter train takes 18 to 19 minutes from the airport to Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel and 30 to 31 minutes from Málaga Centro-Alameda, with 52 trains each way on weekdays and 49 at weekends on Renfe’s timetable. Renfe lets you pay by contactless card at the gate, but charges the maximum fare if you do not tap out at the exit.
The last train back to Málaga leaves Arroyo de la Miel at 00:33. If you are choosing a base for several days, Fuengirola, Torremolinos or Benalmádena compares the three towns, and kid-friendly restaurants in Málaga covers lunch. Buses, taxis and fares are in getting around Málaga.
Will Tivoli World reopen, and what has to happen first
Tivoli World has no reopening date because its plan is still at the first stage. After the Junta’s environmental report, which has a 3-month deadline, Benalmádena council must give initial approval, hold 1 month of public consultation, vote final approval, and then approve the development project and the building permit.
The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, has called the process «long and complex». Any Tivoli ticket price you find online dates from before the closure.
Tivoli World FAQ
Is Tivoli World still open?
No. Tivoli World in Benalmádena closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and has not reopened or sold tickets since. The Benalmádena town hall’s redevelopment document names the COVID-19 pandemic as a main reason, with no tourists and no income, and dates the closure to May 2020 on one page and September 2021 on another. The cable car beside the old gate is open, 11am to 6pm in October.
What can kids do in Benalmádena in winter?
Sea Life, Monowa butterfly park and Bioparc Fuengirola open every day through winter. The Benalmádena cable car runs 11am to 5pm in November and December, and Selwo Marina opens Friday to Sunday in November. Both the cable car and Selwo Marina close from 7 January to 11 February 2027.
